At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.

 

We are looking for a Radiographer to join our Test Department, where we provide a Non Destructive Test (NDT) service to the Manufacturing and Design & Engineering functions of the business. Methods used are Radiographic testing and Digital Radiographic testing (RT & DRT). The successful applicant will be operating a radiographic facility unsupervised that performs Radiography, including testing on various types of aircraft and non-aircraft materials, components and structures. A fundamental aspect of the role is certifying product meets specified criteria. Typical examples of products are:-

 

• Thin Walled Aluminium fabrications
• Titanium and stainless Steel ducting
• Aerospace components and structures

 

The hours of work are 36 hours per week (7am-7pm) worked on a 2 week rotation: Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday - Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday

How You'll Contribute

This role offers the opportunity to learn new skills and to work with new technologies in a changing environment where you will support our manufacturing engineers to really help us make things fly.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Create Radiography Testing (RT) & Digital Radiographic Testing Instructions as required
  • Perform RT & DRT Inspections
  • Provide reports on Non-Destructive Testing matters as required
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers as required
  • Comply with all Health & Safety requirements
  • Ensure Radiation Safety
  • Supervise Level 1 and RT trainees as applicable
  • Ensure all relevant process control checks are carried out

 

What You'll Bring

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

 

Essential:

 

  • Qualified to EN4179 Level 2
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office IT packages
  • Capable of producing concise reports on test results and discussing with stakeholders of all levels
  • Knowledge of material specifications and associated testing criteria

 

Desirable:

 

  • An engineering or technical background within Aerospace
  • Classed as a Radiation Worker in accordance with IRR 2017
  • Trained Radiation Production Supervisor (RPS)
