Job Summary

Sitting within our Civil Airframes business line at our Western Approach Performance Centre in Bristol you’ll do just that. Our modern manufacturing facility at Western Approach is an International Centre of Excellence in composite wing structure design and production, manufacturing composite wing spars and Fixed Trailing Edge assemblies for some of the world's most popular aircrafts. 

Reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Planner will be accountable for planning and scheduling maintenance work in order to optimise asset and process reliability at optimal cost whilst ensuring assets never impact the schedule, the function role includes planning, managing and performing machinery and building asset care.

Job Responsibilities

  • Exemplify a safety-first mindset ensuring compliance to the GKN Aerospace Health, Safety and Environmental policies and standards 
  • Maintain regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with Lean Deployment partners to apply the Planning and Scheduling steps of the Global Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Program to achieve the required levels of maturity
  • Setup and maintain asset hierarchy and history
  • Develop the preventive maintenance program
  • Internal customer liaison for non-emergency work
  • Create and manage job plans and estimates for preventive maintenance
  • Conduct capacity scheduling 
  • Complete work schedules by planned maintenance priority
  • Coordinate availability of manpower, parts, materials and equipment in preparation for planned maintenance work execution
  • Arrange for delivery of materials to job site to ensure planned maintenance can be completed as scheduled
  • Ensure even low priority planned maintenance jobs are accomplished
  • Maintain records, indexes and charts
  • Produce reports on performance goals

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:


  • Mechanical Engineering City & Guilds qualification
  • Significant experience gained from a maintenance planning role within a manufacturing environment
  • Extensive mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience of reading technical drawings
  • Intermediate competency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook


  • A relevant Engineering HNC/HND
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification by a reputable certifying body or benchmark company
  • Aerospace industry experience
  • Electrical engineering experience
  • Experience of estimating labor hours and materials
  • Experience of working with a Lean Operating Model/Production System
  • Experience of equipment and/or building maintenance
  • Experience of Maintenance Systems (CMMS)
