Job Summary

This is a role for an experienced candidate from within the aerospace industry to take responsibility for the definition and delivery of technology demonstrators. Working with internal and external customers the successful candidate will manage TRL development within a multi-million pound collaborative programme to define and deliver a set of demonstrators & TRL gate review.


As well as demonstrator management, the candidate will be expected to work within a skill group team to contribute to the delivery of a wider technical output. This will involve working across a range of projects & AM technologies – including Powder Bed & Direct Energy Depostion.

Job Responsibilities
  • Identification of Additive Manufacturing technology demonstrators with particular focus on Electron Beam Melting, Laser Powder Bed & DED processes
  • Delivery of TRL development using available facilities and resources. This will require engagement with a staff from all of the skill groups, quality and project management and, the operations team.
  • Generate, maintain and execute Level 3 planning for activities, delivering to Time, Cost and Quality. Maintain and communicate risks, actions, issues and dependencies along with other project management tools.
  • Key point of contact for Project, Technology and Programme Managers, providing them with the necessary information to ensure appropriate control
  • Creation and maintenance of a suite of documents constituting the technology development plan
  • Maintain the logging & protection of GKN generated IP (Patents, Trade Secrets and Knowhow)
  • Provide clear & concise progress reporting to the Project Team and Management Functions.
  • Engagement with bid teams and senior management to support or lead the generation of Technology Business Cases
  • Technical activities relevant to the successful candidate’s skillset and experience
  • Compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities. Reporting of all accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)
  • Champion “Export Control” compliance activities, ensuring you and where applicable, members of your team, adhere to the site “Technology Control Plan (TCP), guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems.


Specific Functional Capability, Knowledge and Skills Required


  • Degree qualified within additive manufacturing, Materials, Aerospace, Mechanical, Science or relevant topic.



  • Degree-qualified (or equivalent) Engineer
  • Aircraft structures/aero engine industrial experience, demonstrating an appreciation of the whole manufacturing value chain, from materials through to design, manufacture and testing
  • Working to deliver technology within a formal TRL structure
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods within the aerospace industry
  • Working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
