Job Summary

Our new Global Technology Centre (GTC) in Filton, Bristol is a £32m state of the art technology research and development facility. It acts as a hub for world-class innovative technology for the next generation of fuel-efficient aircraft. It offers a collaborative space for research and development with universities, the UK’s CATAPULT network and GKN Aerospace’s UK supply chain, to help strengthen aerospace technology and support the UK’s Industrial strategy.

The GTC Composites Technology Intern will support the development, validation and implementation of composite manufacturing and assembly technologies across a range of ongoing programmes. This includes supporting technology activities related to wing tips, spars and bonded structural assemblies. The role will also include supporting the wider composites engineering team through documentation management, development of manufacturing Instruction Sheets (MIS), data handling and coordination of technical manufacturing inputs.

 

This is a hands-on learning role intended to provide exposure to real engineering challenges, cross-functional collaboration and structured professional development.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist in the development, testing and evaluation of composite process technologies for wing tip, wing spar and bonded structure applications.
  • Participate in material trials, process validation activities and data collection to support technology decisions.
  • Support the creation, maintenance and controlled release of technical documents.
  • Develop and maintain Manufacturing Instruction (MIS) tools, dashboards and trackers.
  • Contribute to document cascade and configuration management.
  • Support the wider composites team in day-to-day engineering tasks.
  • Engage with design, manufacturing engineering, quality and supply chain teams.
  • Assist in problem-solving activities, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Bring

Skills & Competencies - Technical Skills (desired but not all required):

  • Currently studying at undergraduate level in a relevant subject, such as Aerospace Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering etc.
  • Basic knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Competency in data analysis and handling.
  • CAD familiarity desirable.

 

Professional Skills:

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Clear communicator with the ability to engage with varied engineering teams.
  • Proactive mindset with willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
  • Curious and analytical approach to problem solving.

What To Expect In The Hiring Process

We are currently hiring for 2 candidates to work in this job role.

 

We have set out a hiring process for these opportunities as follows:

  • Advert closing date is Sunday 8th February.
  • On Friday 13th you will be given 2 weeks to complete a one way video interview, final submissions by Friday 27th.
  • Final candidates to take place in our Bristol Global Technology Centre on 18th, 19th, or 20th March.
  • Final decisions and feedback will be delivered to you by Friday 27th March.
