Job Summary

The IT Network Engineer will be based at our Bristol (Filton) site in this role that sits within our global functions supporting all our business lines throughout the EU2 region (UK, Munich and Bangalore), the incumbent will be required to occasionally travel nationally to visit our other GKN sites and there is flexibility to work from home for up to 4 days per week dependent on the needs of the business. The IT Network Engineer will report to Data Centre Manager whilst protecting the business by maintaining and supporting the company's network, firewall and other connectivity systems including configuring, installing and maintaining stable, efficient and secure data centre and network infrastructure as an integral member of the infrastructure team. The incumbent will provide 2nd and 3rd line engineering support and a small amount of design work including include routing and switching changes/upgrades, troubleshooting, web traffic, filtering, cyber essentials roll out and auditing equipment in the data centre and 'on the shelf'. 
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop a secure, stable and responsive network topology to support the company's primarily Cisco and Palo Alto Infrastructure
  • Provide 2nd line support to the Service Desk for network faults (major faults and performance issues)
  • Deploy hardware on site including switches, WiFi access points and UPS’
  • Schedule routine maintenance to install, patch or upgrade the network technologies as required
  • Support projects including new infrastructure roll outs and system upgrades
  • Work to continually improve the network security, performance and reliability
  • Undertake investigations into network faults, security and performance issues
  • Contribute to an integrated infrastructure to enable data to be exchanged between all computing systems both in the company and externally
  • Ensure all documentation is kept current and where required provide hand over training to Service Desk team

Essential:

  • Extensive network engineering experience
  • Experience using Cisco technologies including routing and switching (IOS/NX-OS)
  • Data cable installation, patching and fault finding experience
  • Experience of using online ticketing systems in accordance with formal change control processes
     


Desirable:

 

  • CCNA Cisco accreditation
  • Palo Alto Certified Network Security Administrator accreditation
  • Experience gained from a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of Palo Alto firewalls
  • Experience of Cisco ISE and Cisco Umbrella
  • Telephony system experience such as VOIP
  • Experience of Pulse Secure appliances
