The Opportunity

Our new Infrastructure Specialist will be part of a specialist networking infrastructure team which maintains and supports the company's network, firewall and other connectivity systems. You will configure, install and maintain a stable, efficient and secure data centre and network infrastructure. Whilst your specialism will be in network orientated technologies, supporting GKN Aerospace sites within the EU2 region, you will also be expected to work as an integral member of the infrastructure team on general infrastructure projects, within the EU2 Data Centre team and also as part of the wider GKN IT function.

How You'll Contribute

In this key role, you will:

  • Provide technical support on a break / fix basis as required, including occasional "out-of-hours" support.
  • Deploy hardware, including switches, wireless access points, UPS as required
  • Schedule routine maintenance to install, patch or upgrade the network technologies as required.
  • Ensure the security and protection of the network perimeter.
  • Work on projects including new infrastructure roll outs and system upgrades.
  • Working to continually improve the network security, performance and reliability.
  • Performance monitoring and alerting of local and wide area network using appropriate tools.
  • Contribute to an integrated infrastructure to enable data to be exchanged between all computing systems both in the company and externally.
  • Ensure all documentation is kept current and where required provide hand over training to Service Desk team.
     

What You'll Bring

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/ talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

Essential

  • CCNA Routing and Switching or equivalent experience 
  • Web traffic / filtering knowledge and experience 
  • Experience and knowledge of firewall configuration and management. Palo Alto preferred
  • Experience of using online ticking systems and adhering to formal change control processes
  • Excellent Network support and administration skills and technically astute across all areas of infrastructure, with a passion for IS/IT.
  • Excellent communication skills. Knowledge and experience of how to manage risk in IS/IT in both an operational and development environment.
  • Strong ability to influence others and shows initiative as well as maintaining excellent collaboration with wider teams. 
  • Organised and delivery focused with good project management skills.

Desirable

  • CCNA Cisco wireless accreditation or equivalent experience
  • Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Administrator accreditation
  • Knowledge and experience of Cisco ISE and Cisco Umbrella
  • VOIP / Telephony Experience
  • Experience of Pulse Secure appliances
  • Educated to Degree Level or equivalent.
  • Formal qualification in ITIL.
  • Project Management qualification – i.e. Agile / PRINCE 2 Practitioner
