The Opportunity
GKN Aerospace Filton specialises in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. As a Fitter, you will operate as a multi-skilled, flexible worker to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency. You will have a wide knowledge of hand and machine tools used in the aircraft industry including:
- Percussion riveting
- Drill/Ream/Countersink in panels with Vanmar tools
- Setting structures in build jigs
- Deburring of structures
- Fettling using approved setting tools
- Treatment touch-up in localised areas on aluminium
- Use of CNC pillar drills (DONAU)
- Part Marking + Identifying
How You'll Contribute
In this role, you will:
- Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
- Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
- Be responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
- Be responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
- Adhere to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures and Health & Safety requirements as well as Export Control Requirements
- To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
- Adhere to the site ‘Technology Control Plan (TCP)’, guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems
- Comply with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities
- Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions
- Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)

Essential
- Achieved a recognised Indentured fitting apprenticeship completed within the Aerospace Sector. Please submit copies of your certificates alongside your application.
- Ability to work to standard operating procedures
- Must be able to work in small teams with Team Leader
- Self-motivated team player with good communication skills
- Knowledge of Export Control understanding and regulatory requirements
- Flexibility to work different shifts
Desirable
Ideally have previous manufacturing experience in an aircraft manufacturing production environment
