Job Summary

An exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer has become available at our Western Approach site, in Bristol. To provide Design Engineering Support for the A350 and A400M Programmes, providing responses to Western Approach Operations and Suppliers requests for Concessions, and work in conjunction with the mainstream Design and Stress Teams when required. To provide occasional deputy support to the PSM (such as team prioritisation and meeting with site managers).

Job Responsibilities

  • To work within a team to provide Design Engineering Support for Concessions and Minor Deviations for Western Approach Operations and Supplier requests.
  • To develop appropriate technical solutions for operational non conformances which are compliant with all relevant Customer Design Standards and Airworthiness Requirements, in conjunction with the mainstream Design and Stress teams.
  • To develop GKN processes and procedures to meet Airbus customer requirements. Follow appropriate quality management procedures for defining technical content and project reporting.
  • To work in co-operation with the wider team and other functional areas of the company to achieve local and overall business objectives.
  • Skilled in tools such as SAP, Windchill, MS Office, CATIA, VPM. Managing own workload to ensure tasking is completed to delivery schedule.
  • To be able to liaise with customers’ Engineering Support Teams at the working level.
  • Ensure that relevant stakeholders have the right information at the right time, through pro-active communication. Identify own training and development needs (and, where appropriate those of the wider team) to ensure current and future skill requirements are met and addressed, making recommendations for formal training.
  • Support Engineering continuous improvement plan and “Lean” initiatives to develop improved operating processes and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance to the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental policies.
  • Support the Production Support Manager in all business activities, e.g. KPI compilation, audit preparation and corrective actions, start of shift meetings.
