Job Summary

Sitting across our three business lines; Civil, Defence and Engines at our East Cowes manufacturing plants you’ll do just that. Established in 1901, one of our older production sites with a workforce of circa 800 employees. Our East Cowes plants, Isle of Wight are where we design, manufacture, test and repair high performance structures and systems. We have two facilities on the Island; Falcon Yard, Ferry Road and Osborne Site, Saunders Way. Both locations employ the company’s distinct competencies in major assemblies and composite structures for the global aerospace market. Our customer base includes Airbus, Astronics, BAE Systems, Boeing, Bombardier Aerospace, Cessna, Cobham, Honeywell, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, Rolls Royce and Triumph.

 

The Engineer shall draw on their engineering background and product lifecycle awareness to progress a variety of NPI projects. They must have sound experience in technical working and risk management. They shall be committed to development of their own skills and professional network. Their good communication skills shall enable them to confidently engage with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.

 

This is a very exciting and potentially career defining opportunity. You will be an integral member of a team that is embarking on a significant and challenging technology development project; this four year project will be a major steppingstone towards achieving the next generation of Tilt-Rotors
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Define and develop requirements, turn them into a feasible solution by proposing an architecture, system and component definition according to ARP4754 
  • Develop component and system specifications/descriptions as well as compliance criteria for the system, items, components, hardware and software
  • Develop functions, systems, items and components to ARP4754, ARP4761, DO160, DO254, DO178, DO297 and others as appropriate
  • Develop requirements at all levels from system, item, components, down to hardware and software level
  • Define validation plans and ensure compliance through analysis, simulation and/or test (e.g. DO160) as appropriate
  • Technically engage with the supply chain
  • Work with the systems architects, mechanical systems engineers and system simulation engineers to ensure that the system requirements are achieved
  • Anticipate and manage transversal technical and business issues, arbitrate between solutions considering all aspects: sustainability, reusability, optimisation, opportunity, schedule, quality, cost, risks, safety and performance
  • Generate technical reports and presentations, with the ability to present information in a clear and organized manner
  • Develop specification documents and procedures for new products before launched into manufacturing.  
  • Ensure specification and ensure the production, compliance and test of the components, items and systems.  
  • Develop validation test methods and protocols. Use Aerospace best practices.  
  • Participate in in-depth analysis of test data
  • Ensure configuration management is in place for the systems and all of its components from requirement through to operation
  • Provide general technical feedback on the design and development of mechanical and electrical sub-systems
  • Manage and develop requirements and specifications
     

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

Essential:

  • HND, or Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or similar 
  • Experience specifying and developing electrical/electronic systems for aircraft sensors 
  • CATIA V5 Interrogator or User
  • Experience in MBSE (e.g. SysML), functional decomposition and performing architectural system level studies, e.g. ANSYS SCADE.
  • Experience in the selection and development of databus networks including logical data management
  • Experience in functional and physical system development 
  • Experience in the mechanical design, integration and test of the electrical/electronic systems, including functional, RTCA-DO-160 testing
  • Experience in associated international standards, design practices, certification requirements (and means of compliance) as well as in service issues
  • Ability to design and set-up experiments and fixtures for testing (“Hands on” experience)

Desirable:

  • Experience in aerospace systems engineering
  • Experience logical development including the specification and validation of aerospace software
  • LabVIEW experience
  • Proficiency in RBE tools, e.g. DOORS
  • Experience in data management role
  • Experience in Safety Assessment and Compliance Planning, including FTA and FMEA, e.g. ANSYS Medini, Isograph
  • Proficiency in Multi-domain Modelling/Simulation packages, e.g. MATLAB, Simulink, Simscape, Amesim or other
