Job Summary

The Legal Counsel will be based at our Blythe Valley (Solihull) or Bristol (GTC) sites supporting our Civil business line and Global Procurement function whilst reporting to the Head of Legal - Civil, the incumbent will need to be flexible for quarterly travel within the UK and the Netherlands to attend external and internal meetings and there is flexibility for working from home for up to 50% of the time dependent on the needs of the business. This role will involve the provision of technically competent and timely legal advice on a wide range of legal and compliance issues to support procurement and supply chain related activity, the incumbent will draft, review and negotiate complex international contracts with suppliers, support and advise on contentious issues, claims and litigation, advise on and implement best practice processes for procurement contract lifecycle management, perform procurement contract negotiation and approval, manage supplier disputes and claims, conduct amendments and terminations and manage regulatory issues.

Established in 2019, Blythe Valley hosts GKN Aerospace’s Global Functions which provide support to all of our employees, across a range of activities including; HR, IT, Finance, HSE, Corporate Governance, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Global Communications and Legal. We partner with the world’s major aircraft and Original Equipment manufacturers including; Airbus, Astronics, Aviation Partners Boeing, BAE Systems, Bell Helicopters, Boeing, Bombardier Aerospace, Cessna, Cobham, Dassault, General Automics, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Honeywell, Jaguar Land Rover, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, MOD, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls Royce, Sikorsky, Saab, Textron, Triumph. Blythe Valley is home to 50+ employees and onsite/local facilities include Break out spaces, communal café, showers, Java Lounge coffee house, day care nursery, health club, cycle and motorcycle covered parking and vehicle electric charging stations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensure that supplier related activity (contracting, disputes and otherwise) is carried out with appropriate awareness of and consideration for the related customer arrangements
  • Support the Civil Business Line 
  • Act as the primary Legal contact point for the Procurement Global Commodity Team on global procurement matters, claims and process/precedent development
  • Support the Head of Legal and Senior Counsel on internal projects including reporting, training and risk management activities
  • Support M&A, Employment, Product Safety/HSE, Environmental, Real Estate, Data Protection, Licences and Approvals, Investigations and Compliance
  • Work frequently with other members of the Legal and Compliance team on a matrix basis
  • Work with organisational ambiguity showing good judgement
  • Own your own development to continuously improve your legal and non-legal skills
  • Proactively seek opportunities to collaborate within and support the development of the Legal & Compliance function
     

How You'll Contribute

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

Essential:

  • A UK qualified solicitor registered with the SRA (Solicitors Regulation Authority)
  • A relevant Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent
  • Significant legal PQE experience 
  • Legal training completed at a recognised top tier law firm 
  • In house legal experience
  • Experience of drafting and negotiating cross border commercial contracts that include procurement and supply chain matters
  • Experience of managing and resolving cross border disputes 
  • Experience of internal and external stakeholder management building and owning relationship


Desirable:

  • In house legal experience within the manufacturing or aerospace industries
