Job Summary

As Commercial Director you will be providing commercial leadership for a customer-centred business across multiple locations, local and core IPTs. You will provide data-driven business analysis, guidance and planning and actively contributing to the commercial strategy across the business. You will ensure business compliance with statutory and GKN Aerospace governance. 


Job Responsibilities



  • Ensure that Commercial Governance, policies and procedures, are embedded and adhered to within the VP Customer.
  • Work with the Customer Finance Director to ensure customer debt is properly managed and customer overdue debt minimized and maximise cash opportunities.
  • Create and support contract management framework and ensure contractual change management controls are in place and ensure that all contracts and contract amendments are uploaded to the Aerospace central contracts database.
  • Responsible for initiating and managing the processes that govern order receipt and acceptance and management thereafter.
  • Act as leader, expert and internal escalation point for negotiation and resolution of commercial claims to/from customers. 
  • Ensure that compliancy and contracting risk (technical, financial, contractual) is properly understood and managed in the negotiation of terms and conditions for new business and ensure that all contracting obligations are fully understood.
  • Accountable for the deployed resources that manage the commercial bids, proposals and contract Gate reviews such that risks are understood, minimized and managed appropriately.
  • Collect data and provide payment milestone overview and adherence to cash-in.
  • Support the claim process for customer claims and Material Litigation reporting and provide guidance on claim settlement and claim negotiation strategy.
  • Provide key management information and analysis to make informed business decisions and to help drive business performance improvement, particularly cost competitiveness and cash generation.


  • Ensure reviews of business case (Business Models) capture and address commercial and financial requirements of the business.
  • Lead, motivate develop and serve the commercial function within programs. Responsible for the commercial team’s functional skills and professional development.
  • To be the acknowledged expert on commercial contracting and program accounting within the program. Oversee revenue recognition for the business.
  • Ensure that the Commercial personnel with thin the Business Line have a good understanding and comply with Export Control requirement.


Job Qualifications



  • Must be a true business person with strong business acumen.
  • Proven leadership experience in a multi site manufacturing environment.    
  • Extremely experienced commercial professional.      
  • Evidence of an ability to instil sound Commercial management practices.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             
  • Must be a strategic advisor to the Vice President and is accustomed to working through and managing the details of issues and opportunities.
  • Ability to influence both internally and externally at senior levels.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to build and lead a team of professionals.
