The Role:

GKN Aerospace Luton are recruiting a year in industry student to join a high performing manufacturing engineer team. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn in a real world environment and gain a high level of responsibility and technical understanding early in your career.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining engineering compliance through management of process specification, change requests and internal production permits.
  • Leading small manufacturing improvement projects e.g. process development or purchase of small capital items.
  • Contributing to practical problem solving activities using lean tools, particularly in relation to scrap and rework cost reduction.
  • Contributing to process improvement activities, with a vision of creating world class, 6-sigma manufacturing processes through elimination of waste and process variation
  • Compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy Legislation and Company’s Policies.
  • GKN is compliant with the Company’s Environmental, Health & Safety and Energy Awareness procedures and ensures that all relevant legislation is complied with by effective implementation and management to all employees.
  • Any other reasonable duties

Experience/Skills:

  • Applicants must be extremely dedicated and motivated by a challenging role in a high performing value stream.
  • Applicants must be willing to embrace and contribute to a changing environment where assumptions are challenged based on data driven, well-reasoned arguments.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate effectively at all levels within an organisation and be flexible in approach.
  • Applicants should be studying for an engineering qualification in an applicable engineering discipline, these could include manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineer, aerospace or aeronautical engineering or electrical engineering.
  • Any experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment would be seen as desirable
