Advanced HR Apprentice

An exciting opportunity for an Advanced HR Apprentice has become available at our world class Aerospace manufacturing facility in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight.

Our Human Resources Apprenticeship is a 4-year programme, which can lead onto one of the following areas of technical expertise: Human Resources business partnering, building positive, pro-active relationships with managers across the Cowes sites and work with them to deliver the plans and priorities within their business area.  They ensure HR Operational activities are effectively deployed and managed. They will also support HR Projects and initiatives within the business by:

  • Responsible for the delivery of all HR activities to a specified client group, to include; recruitment, onboarding, engagement, training, employee relations, remuneration, performance management, talent management, employee relations, absence management, and, disciplinary.
  • Provide advice, guidance and direction to managers and employees to resolve HR problems and concerns.
  • Proactively work with managers to drive continual improvement across HR KPIs in each business area.
  • Provide coaching and counselling to managers to increase their HR knowledge, particularly relating to our HR management system, disciplinary, absence management and performance management.
  • Support employee relations by building relationships with managers, employees and trade union representatives.
  • Develop, support, communicate and implement policies and procedures as required.  Manage risk and ensure legal compliance by keeping current with UK requirements.
  • Support the Head of HR in achieving the sites targets and budgets.

Apprentice Programme Structure

Years 1&2:  Your first year will be working across the site and at college learning and understanding the complex nature of our business. You will undertake Business Familiarisation rotation placements within your occupational role area. During these years the work that you carry out within placement production areas will be recorded in the form of logbook entries. This logbook is reviewed monthly with your GKN training advisor.  You will attend college to undertake your CIPD qualification(s) depending on current experience and current level.

Year 3: You will continue working towards completing your qualifications You will have an extended placement within the HR department undertaking various aspects including L&D, Employee engagement, Payroll, KPI’s & reports, recruitment, employee relations etc.

Year 4:  You will continue and complete your qualifications and continue training in your final target client group as an HR Business partner.

Key Responsibilities

  • To observe the company’s terms and conditions of employment.
  • In both work and training, to be diligent and punctual and attend courses, keep records and take tests to be determined by the company in order to achieve the training objectives and quality gates
  • To behave in a responsible manner and in accordance with the requirements of Health & Safety legislation relating to the individual’s responsibilities.
  • To promote the company’s name and image with respect and diplomacy.
  • To successfully complete all activities documented in the Apprentice Training Agreement.

Qualifications - You must have at least five GCSE’s

Maths A* - B   (9 - 6 New Grading)

English A* - C (9 – 4 New Grading)

Science A* - C (9 – 4 New Grading)  

Plus two more A* - C (9 – 4 New Grading)

You will need the right to work in the UK, currently, if you live outside the EU you will need a UK work permit before you can start an apprenticeship.
